Give Thanks to Him Always

"And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him. Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness." Colossians 2:6-7, NLT

In this Thanksgiving season, we pray that each one of us will be intentional to remember to give our Lord Jesus Christ the praise and gratitude that He so richly deserves. We would like to share a poem with you that when we read it, stopped us in our tracks. It halted our busy schedule, our "to-do" list and all the "must-get-dones" that were warring for our attention because it beautifully illustrates what each one of us reading this letter has.....LIFE. We pray it moves you in the same way it did us!

The Best Day of My Life

Today, when I awoke, I suddenly realized that this is the best day of my life, ever!

There were times when I wondered if I would ever make it to today; but I did! AND because I did, I'm going to celebrate!

Today, I'm going to celebrate what an unbelievable life I've had so far:

the accomplishments, the many blessings, and, yes, even the hardships

Because they have served to make me stronger.

I will go through this day with my head held high, and a happy heart.

I will marvel at God's seemingly simple gifts;

the morning dew, the sun, the clouds, the trees, the flowers, the birds.

Today, none of these miraculous creations will escape my notice.

Today, I will share my excitement of life with other people.

I will make someone smile.

I'll go out of my way to perform an unexpected act of kindness for someone I don't even know.

Today, I will give a sincere compliment to someone who seems down.

I'll tell a child how special he is,

And I'll tell someone I love just how deeply I care for them

and how much they mean to me.

Today is a day I quit worrying about what I don't have and start being grateful for all the wonderful things God has already given me.

I'll remember that to worry is just a waste of time

Because my faith in God and His Divine Plan Ensures everything will be just fine.

Tonight, before I go to bed, I'll go outside and raise my eyes to the heavens.

I will stand in awe at the beauty of the stars and moon,

and I will praise God for these magnificent treasures.

As the day ends and I lay my head down on my pillow,

I will thank the Almighty for the best day of my life

And I will sleep the sleep of a contented child excited with expectation because I know tomorrow is going to be.....

A Pickle Prayer

Larry and I were blessed to have our granddaughter, Myanna, with us for ten weeks last summer. We usually have our grandson, Dante', join us as well, but he is almost 15 and juggled a few part-time jobs this summer. My sister-in-law, Terry Brooks, once said referring to grandchildren, "Be sure and enjoy them all you can when they are little because they grow up so fast. They then find their own friends, have their own activities and they won't want to spend weeks with Grandpa and Grandma." We have taken that to heart and have enjoyed thirteen summers on the road with Dante' and now Myanna also for the past five summers. We only have two grandchildren so we nab every minute with them we can amidst our busy schedule.

Sandbox Rocks

A little boy was spending his Saturday morning playing in his sandbox. He had with him his box of cars and trucks, his plastic pail, and a shiny, red plastic shovel. In the process of creating roads and tunnels in the soft sand, he discovered a large rock in the middle of the sandbox. The lad dug around the rock, managing to dislodge it from the dirt. With no little bit of struggle, he pushed and nudged the rock across the sandbox by using his feet. (He was a very small boy and the rock was very huge.)

When the boy got the rock to the edge of the sandbox, however, he found that he couldn't roll it up and over the little wall. Determined, the little boy shoved, pushed, and pried, but every time he thought he had made some progress, the rock tipped and then fell back into the sandbox. The little boy grunted, struggled, pushed, shoved-but his only reward was to have the rock roll back, smashing his chubby fingers. Finally he burst into tears of frustration.

Weigh In

I bounced into church on a Sunday morning as was the usual routine. I quickly stepped into the women's bathroom to make sure I was all put together before dashing into the sanctuary to do the morning service.

I came to a screeching halt as I came face to face with a professional scale. I chuckled, "Oh dear Lord, since when do I have to weigh in before I go to church?"
